The 2023 growing season began with heavy rains, ending three years of drought on the Central Coast and providing lush canopies and improved soil moisture. Cool, rainy conditions continued into spring, delaying budbreak. A mild summer extended hang time, helping berries retain acidity while developing complex, concentrated flavors. The longer season and later harvest ensured full phenolic ripeness and an ideal balance of acid, tannin, and sugar in the grapes. Overall, 2023 is poised to be an outstanding vintage, with wines showing excellent varietal character, deep color, and impressive depth and finesse.
