Winemaker Notes
With remarkable allure, this Funk Vineyard Syrah opens with fragrant layers of lavender, violet, and pomegranate, accented by dried fig, plum, and cured meat. The palate is rich and savory, where vibrant pomegranate and fig intertwine with salted prosciutto, dark cacao, and briny undertones, lifted by black pepper and celery salt. Aged for 16 months in French oak, it unfolds with depth, elegance, and lasting complexity.
Production
The 2023 growing season in Walla Walla Valley was excellent. While the season began with a cold, wet spring that led to a later-than-normal budbreak, the weather throughout summer was picture perfect, allowing the vines to catch up and ripen to expectation. With the exception of a couple of minor rains that delayed a couple of picks by a day or two, the weather during harvest was ideal, and we were able to pick our grapes at ideal ripeness. In the Walla Walla Valley, the season produced an amazing abundance of color in our grapes, resulting in wines with alluring dark fruit profiles, rich textures, and an earthiness that creates fascinating underlying complexity.
