The Goldeneye Gewürztraminer is derived from a one-acre block of our Confluence Vineyard. The Gewürztraminer is night harvested and whole cluster pressed before first light to preserve the inherent freshness of the varietal. The juice is fermented in stainless steel for up to 45 days at 45 to 50 degrees which maintains the aromatic character so important to Gewürztraminer. The Gewürztraminer is bottled shortly after completing fermentation and is best served cold as a wonderful accompaniment to a variety of foods.

Winemaker Notes
This beautifully aromatic wine displays vivid layers of zesty citrus, peach and nectarine, as well as floral hints of rose petal and honeysuckle. On the palate, a beam of vibrant acidity adds lovely poise and purity to the stone fruit and lemon rind flavors, while drawing the wine to a crisp, refined finish.
Production
The 2018 growing season was one of the finest Anderson Valley Pinot Noir vintages of the past decade. A dry winter and a cool, damp spring delayed budbreak and bloom by several weeks, and helped the vines to avoid any potential spring frost issues. Lovely weather throughout summer allowed for abundant hangtime and ideal ripening, leading to our first Pinot Noir pick on September 12th. The temperate weather continued into autumn, ensuring that we were able to pick every block and vineyard at the height of perfection. As a result, our 2018 wines are beautifully aromatic, with striking natural acidity, rich textures and alluring varietal flavors.

Goldeneye sent me a bottle to review and while I normally love Gewurztraminer varietals, this was different than I generally prefer. Instead of being on the sweeter end of the spectrum it was semi-sweet / medium-dry and lacked any effervescence that I normally enjoy from Gewurztraminer. I suppose that might simply be a California wine vs a colder climate like those grapes found in Alsatian vineyards. Ultimately though, this might just be a personal preference. I did however enjoy the bottle, but my personal preference leads me to prefer different attributes.

Gewürztraminer is a pink-skinned grape variety that produces some of the world's most distinctive aromatic wines. I learned a tip to help me remember how to pronounce the name of this grape, “the worst demeanor" or "girls are meaner”.

We served the wine chilled and read that it is best paired with spicy foods, so we had it with Mexican food and it was lovely. It was citrusy, earthy and smooth. We will definitely be having this pairing again. A glass on its own would be wonderful too. I completed this review in exchange for compensation and free product, but all views are my own.

This bottle was perfect for one of our last warm days since it is best served chilled. I knew immediately that I found this wine very interesting. Since the process uses stainless steel barrels it was more pleasant to my non oak loving taste.

My favorite wines are aromatic with citrus notes, so this wine suited me perfectly. The floral hints of rose petal and honeysuckle made it even that much better.

I enjoyed this one afternoon when a group of my gal pals dropped by to visit. It was perfect with some light snacks we gathered up. What a great accompaniment to a perfect afternoon.
