Wine & Spirits - 94 Points

Located at the base of Spring Mountain in Napa Valley’s St. Helena appellation, Patzimaro Vineyard was named after the town of Patzimaro de Aviña in honor of the Hurtado Family, an essential part of the Duckhorn Vineyards winemaking team who migrated from this small village to the Napa Valley in 1987. The vineyard enjoys high daytime temperatures and cool evenings, allowing the fruit to fully ripen while retaining the natural acidity needed to create balanced, structured Cabernet Sauvignons highlighting classic characteristics of cassis, earth and black olive.

Wine Profile

Production Notes
Varietal Content 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc Cooperage 100% French oak Chateau-style barrels (60 gallons) Barrel Aging: 18 months Age of Barrels: 85% new, 15% neutral
Winemaker Notes
This estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon reveals gorgeous aromas of black cherry, currant, cocoa, Castelvetrano olive and moist earth. On the palate, firm age-worthy tannins unwind slowly, framing flavors of black currant, warm spice cake, slate and pomegranate molasses.
Production
The 2013 harvest was early, even and excellent with all of our Estate fruit in the winery by October 10th. A warm dry spring brought an early bud break and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. In the weeks after Labor Day, a moderate heat event followed by a period of perfect weather created a dream scenario for end-of-season ripening. Rain was not a factor, and for the second vintage in a row, the quality of the grapes was exceptional throughout Napa Valley.
