Our Vineyard Series is a collection of limited-produced wines that offer their own inspired variations on the contemporary and innovative style of our Paraduxx red blends. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel comes from the high slopes of Atlas Peak, where temperatures can be up to 10 degrees cooler than the valley floor. This ensures long, even ripening, yielding an elegantly textured wine with expressive layers of cherry, lavender and forest floor.
Composition: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Zinfandel; Oak: 90% French oak, 10% American oak
40% new, 60% second vintage
Aromas of holiday spice, cherry and red raspberry leap from the glass, followed by a hint of vanilla bean. On the palate, the vivid red berry notes continue, supported by just the right amount of bright acidity to add poise and definition. Firm, well-integrated tannins provide an almost architectural structure to the abundant layers of fruit and spice.
2012 offered near-perfect growing conditions. Warm weather during bloom allowed the vines to set a large crop with increased yields were the result of more berries, not larger berries. Slightly cooler-than-average post-veraison weather, and a lack of any heat events allowed for greatly extended hang time. Harvest was 2-3 weeks later than average, and the grapes arrived at the winery in pristine condition.
